Using Snug

Install

Download Snug, open the disk image and drag Snug to Applications. It needs macOS 15 or later. Snug lives in the menu bar; it has no Dock icon.

First tidy screen

  1. Open Snug and click Open Accessibility Settings. Turn on Snug in the list; the welcome window moves on by itself.
  2. Pick a layout for each display.
  3. Paste your license key (or click Open Snug on the page you saw after buying) and choose Activate.

If windows jump when you drag them, turn off Drag windows to screen edges to tile in System Settings › Desktop & Dock.

Layouts

Columns, Rows, Grid, Side, Center Stage and Thirds. Snug picks one per display from its shape: Rows for portrait, Columns for laptop screens, Side for large displays and Center Stage for ultrawides. Change it from the menu bar panel, the layout picker (press ⌃⌥Space, then click a layout or type its number) or ⌃⌥⌘1–6. Drag a gap to resize; double-click it to reset.

When a screen is full, big displays add a tile and smaller ones stack the new window in the focused tile. Change this in Settings › General.

Docking scenes

Snug keeps an automatic scene for every combination of displays. When that combination comes back, windows return to their display and tile, and a small notice offers Undo. Save extra named scenes such as “Coding” with ⌃⌥⌘S or from the menu bar panel.

Rules

In Settings › Rules, add a rule such as “Always put Slack on the built-in display in the main tile.” Rules apply when a window opens. To keep an app out of tiling, turn off “Tile [app]” in the menu bar panel while it's in front.

Troubleshooting

  • Nothing tiles. Check the menu bar panel: it says if Accessibility permission is off, the license isn't active, Stage Manager is on or tiling is paused.
  • One window floats in the middle. That app can't shrink to fit its tile; the panel shows “1 window couldn't fit.” Try fewer windows on that display or a different layout.
  • An app keeps moving its window back. After three tries Snug lets that window float. Exclude the app if you prefer.
